Rio Lagartos biosphere &
Ek Balam Ruins
The biosphere Rio Lagartos, is one of the biggest and most important mangrove zones and petenes of the Yucatan Peninsula. In the region, there are few human settlings, which help the concentration of animal species.
The reserve has a total surface of 60,347.82 hectares, divided in 6 main zones and zones of damping, being a complex of terrestrial ecosystems, sweet and salty water mix; present a great diversity of flora, we can find 10 types of vegetation: middle jungle subperenifolia, low jungle caducifolia, low thorny jungle caducifolia non floated grass, mangrove, coastal dune scrub and sea grass vegetation (seibadal). We also find some characteristics in the coast zones of the Yucatan Peninsula called petenes, which have been described as tree islands, where the composition of flora is richer than the one inland and is between 18 and 25 m of height.
You can enjoy all that and fill the emotion of being in direct contact with this world full of natural beauty; we offer you several packages for the best adventure you have been waiting for, check our plans and if you would like to have more information.
